Whereas the microcalcification of thin fibrous cap might deceptively act as a stress concentrator, the fragmented calcification very infrequently could stab through the fibrous cap regardless of the cap thickness.
Unlike these rupture-prone shades of coronary calcification, plate-like calcification guards the plaque stability. Although their study is based on a small number of observations, we congratulate Torii et al. for an elegant morphological description of CN, and believe that further studies would confirm the pathophysiological and mechanical basis of evolution of ACS associated with CN.
