Biobanks
Evaluation and harmonization of biobanks
Principal aim of the WG is the realization of a biobank of the Italian Cardiology Network, containing the biological samples of the Network studies, which will make it possible: a) the –Identification, b) the characterization of biomarkers of cardio-cerebrovascular risk and proofing of new therapeutical targets, c) the evaluation of the interplay and relative impact of genetic/epigenetic and environmental (life habits, stress, socio-economical conditions, air pollutants and others) determinants on multifactorial chronic degenerative disorders.
The project will be implemented on steps:
- the evaluation and characterization of the biobanking infrastructures of the institutions belonging to the Cardiovascular For this purpose, a national census has been performed by sending a very detailed questionnaire about their biobank to all the institutions; each of the latter has been asked to indicate an expert representative for biobanking;
- the promotion of harmonization procedures for collection, appropriate location and redistribution of the samples; invitation to apply to become part of the national node of the European Platform of Biobanks(BBRMI.it); dissemination of the pertinent information on the new Guideline ISO 20387 specifically formulated for biobank accreditation; information on BBRMI new Working Groups for 2019/ 2020.
- the dissemination of the Best Practices for Access and Sharing (from data to results) in research biobanking through sharing of common ethical principles and applications ( see for Informed Consent, Information leaflet for donors and related documents)
